About

Ainsley MacLean is a self-taught digital artist, writer, photographer, and music creator based in Kendenup, Western Australia.

Across all mediums, his work explores the raw, uncomfortable truths of human existence, marked by emotional depth, unflinching honesty, and a refusal to soften difficult realities.

Permanently disabled by Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), MacLean’s lived experience deeply informs his creative practice, threading themes of fragility, endurance, disillusionment, and resilience throughout his work.

As a visual artist, MacLean is known for bold geometric forms, sharp lines, and a deliberate tension between order and chaos.

Working digitally in ArtRage, he balances technical precision with intuitive, freehand construction, creating meticulously layered works that challenge rather than comfort.

His photography focuses on the quiet intensity of the animal world. Limited in travel by chronic illness, he photographs close to home, capturing fleeting moments with patience, attentiveness, and a deep sensitivity to presence and behavior.

In his writing, MacLean explores suffering, loss, social critique, and dark satire through poetry, prose, and science fiction, including stories set in a future Western Australia. His work rejects easy answers, confronting the emotional and psychological weight of modern life and chronic illness.

As a music creator under the name Intergalactic Potato Productions, MacLean builds electronic soundscapes influenced by Jean-Michel Jarre, Pink Floyd, The Cure, and Split Enz.

His music prioritizes atmosphere and emotional weight over convention, drawing from ambient, funk, jazz, and electronic dance elements.

MacLean’s work invites discomfort, reflection, and engagement with the realities we often prefer to avoid.

His writing appears in Voices of the South (2024, 2025). His music is available on all major streaming platforms.
